Getting Started
The PSTCompactor Management Console is used to manage all aspects of PSTCompactor both locally and on remote machines. It allows you to access reports, deploy to and reconfigure servers, create configuration files and setup scheduling.
If this the first time you've used PSTCompactor...
You now need to learn how to navigate the Management Console and install the Processing Engine component of PSTCompactor. The Processing Engine does all the work - the Management Console simply controls it.
You should...
- Learn how to Navigate the Management Console
- Use the Deploy the Processing Engine onto this or another computer - the console and processing engine can be on the same PC.
- Create a Server Group and register the Server you just deployed onto with the console
- Progress thru the other topics "Using the Management Console" to configure and start processing mailboxes
If the Processing Engine(s) are already deployed and you just want to manage them...
If you're looking to remotely manage Processing Engines that have alredy been deployed onto computer(s) with the Deployment Manager, you simply need to create one or more Server Groups and add ("register") each server into them.
Simply installing PSTCompactor does not deploy any Processing Engines - see above if you've not used the Deployment Manager yet.

- Learn how to Navigate the Management Console, if neccessary
- Create a Server Group and register the Server you just deployed onto with the console
- Start managing each registered server - review the topics under "Using the Management Console" for further help.
Note: How you organize servers into Server Groups is up to you - your categorization will not affect other Management Consoles or the Processing Engines themselves
If you're upgrading PSTCompactor..
You need to keep the version of PSTCompactor the same on all your machines. If you don't, you may find you are unable to remotely administer some features and may experience unexepcted crashes and problems.
You should...
- Review the Upgrading from 2.xx topic
- Run the updated installer obtained from the website or your vendor on the local machine - this updates the Management Console (only)
- Deploy the updated 'Processing Engine' component to each machine with the Deployment Manager
- Deploy the updated 'Management Console' component to each machine with the the Deployment Manager
