Home > Architecture

There are some substantial differences in the architecture of PSTCompactor SOHO and the other editions. Specifically, the Home edition is designed for use on a single, local computer only - it has no remote management, no email alerts and no in-built ability to run as a background process.

The Small Biz, Pro and Enterprise editions consist of a number of components:

  • Management Console
The Management Console provides remote deployment, configuration, administration, scheduling and reporting capabilities. It can also be used to monitor the progress of the Processing Engine on multiple servers simultaneously.

  • Processing Engine
This server-side component of PSTCompactor is installed on one or more machines in your organization, generally a fileserver or such. It runs as a Windows NT Service and processes PST files in the background when requested. The number of Processing Engines you are allowed to deploy onto servers within your organization is determined by your license.

Each Processing Engine operates independently and can process PST's on the same physical machine or remotely across the LAN.

  • Master Server
The Enterprise Edition's Master Server provides license management and other services to the linked Processing Engines.
